LOL: Disinformation Blamed for Potential Demise of Biden Disinformation Board

The Biden administration’s Ministry of Truth has been put on hold after widespread bipartisan blowback.

In an age where those claiming to fight disinformation and “check facts” are the biggest purveyors of misinformation, opposing the Orwellian “Disinformation Governance Board” was a no brainer. Even as a non-governmental agency such a Board would be suspect. Some on the left at least had the foresight to realize that such a Board could ultimately be weaponized them under a Republican administration – though it’s doubtful they’d oppose if it they could guarantee permanent control over it to enforce their own reality.

Mary Poppins fan Nina Jankowicz, who was the head of the Board for roughly two-Scaramuccis, resigned yesterday on the announcement that the Board was being “paused.”  Insufferable Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz broke the story, which framed the Board’s troubles as following a right-wing attack campaign. No where in her piece does she many any left-wing opposition to the Board, or that the owner of her paper Jeff Bezos spoke out against it too. And even more curiously, Lorenz makes no reference to her years-long friendship with Jankowicz in an article that’s effectively a PR puff piece defending her.

Just a coincidence, I’m sure.

For the Board’s troubles, Jankowicz blamed (prepare to laugh) disinformation. “All these sensationalized narratives about what people thought the board was going to do was completely wrong. It was a coordinating mechanism. It was meant to make sure that the very large agency that is the Department of Homeland Security, that people were talking to each other within it,” she told Chris Hayes.

Jankowicz, who spread the false narrative that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian misinformation, and pushed the discredited anti-Trump Steele dossier, also described herself as “reasonable and nuanced,” and claimed to not be partisan.

Doocy asked Psaki 2.0 the obvious question yesterday following the announcement that the Board had been paused: what changed?

At the end of her non-answer, Jean Pierre made it clear that this may not be over yet.

“But  we’re still going to continue the work”
