DA loses by-election to ANC in KZN
In a by-election held in uMdoni (Scottburgh) on Wednesday the ANC took a ward off the DA.
The ANC was the single biggest party in the ward, winning just under 30% of the vote, followed by the EFF with 23.9%. The DA came in third with 18%.
In last year’s local government elections the DA had managed to win the ward with 27% of the vote, against the ANC’s 24%. In that election the EFF had won just over 16% of the vote.
The ANC win gives it 18 seats on the 37-seat municipal council. The DA has six seats and the IFP and EFF each have five. The Allied Movement for Change, the Abantu Batho Congress, and Al Jama-ah each have one seat.
