In the midst of a dataset containing a total of 3.6 million documents, two previously unknown companies of former Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser have emerged. The WKStA suspects that bribery payments were made through these companies. Grasser’s lawyer denies this.
A research network consisting of ORF and Standard has examined documents related to at least two previously unknown companies of former Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser (FPÖ/ÖVP). Cypriot companies already played a role in the Buwog case. According to the report, the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor’s Office suspects that bribery payments were made through such company structures – Grasser’s lawyer Norbert Wess dismissed this as „incorrect and completely fabricated“ to APA. Grasser was sentenced to eight years in prison in the Buwog trial. The verdict is not legally binding, and Grasser denies all allegations.
Regarding the two previously unknown companies that appear in the „Cyprus Confidential“ data collection, Grasser’s lawyer Wess stated to the research network that one of the companies had been „briefly – a topic“ but had „not been used and never became operational.“ The other company is „completely unknown,“ as Wess confirmed to APA. All other companies in Cyprus were part of a „foundation structure“ set up by Grasser’s former tax advisor and were disclosed to the tax authorities. They were also part of the financial criminal proceedings against Grasser, which ended in an acquittal
