‘Stay Classy’: Bette Midler Slammed After Suggesting MAGA Women ‘Move To Iran’
Bette Midler got slammed by social media users Friday after she suggested that MAGA women should move to Iran if they want a country run by “men and religion.”
The 76-year-old activist and actress shared the post on Twitter with her 2.1 million followers ahead of the 2022 midterm elections in which polls show that Republicans are expected to make gains against the Democrats.
“Hey MAGA women, if you want a country run by men and religion, move to Iran,” Midler’s tweet read.
Reading through the comments, many people on Twitter were not happy with it and called the “Hocus Pocus” star out as a “bully,” “hateful,” “sexist,” and more.

“You truly have no idea how women are treated over there so your comparison is disgusting,” one person tweeted. “My husband did 3 tours in the middle east, he can shed some light on the atrocities that occur to women.”
“Hey Bette if you want bully people into voting the way you want you feel free to move,” another shared.
Another wrote, “Uh. Considering the Iranian women fighting and risking their lives to change things I feel like this is a really bad take.”
“Bette, I’ve been a fan of yours since I was a little girl, and I still am, but these tweets are so alienating,” another person shared. “Do you ever even try to consider why people might believe differently than you do? Maybe try having a conversation with one of these ‘maga women’ you are sneering at.”
One person tweeted, “Guess you haven’t been paying attention! A lot of maga women are running for office. So how about you moving to Iran. They feel the same way you do about people who disagree politically. You would fit in.”
One commenter simply stated, “Stay classy.”
“If this were the other team, it’d be denounced as sexist, racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, etc,” another person explained.
Another noted that the actress, who proudly calls herself a feminist, should be supporting Iran women.
“Hey Feminist, why aren’t you supporting the women of Iran?” the person wrote. “Those are truly oppressed women, yet they are standing alone.”
“Iran is based on Islamic principles,” another concluded. “MAGA wants to keep our country based on Christian principles. There is a wide difference between these principles. No comparison.”
