Justice Department Drops Sex-Trafficking Investigation Into Rep. Matt Gaetz

The United States Department of Justice will not bring charges against Rep. Matt Gaetz more than a year after launching a federal sex trafficking investigation.

According to reports, Gaetz’s lawyers and a number of witnesses were informed of the decision on Wednesday.

“We have just spoken with the DOJ and have been informed that they have concluded their investigation into Congressman Gaetz and allegations related to sex trafficking and obstruction of justice and they have determined not to bring any charges against him,” Gaetz’s lawyers Marc Mukasey and Isabelle Kirshner, wrote in a statement.

Rep. Gaetz has consistently denied any wrongdoing since the DOJ first launched its investigation.

The news of the DOJ’s decision was first reported by CNN’s Paula Reid, who tweeted that that decision was made, “in part, because of questions over whether central witnesses in the investigation would be perceived as credible before a jury.”
