‘Knives Out’ Star Toni Collette Has Quite The Opposite View When It Comes To ‘Intimacy Coordinators’

“Knives Out” star Toni Collette has a very different view of the use of intimacy coordinators on the sets of movies and TV shows in the wake of the MeToo movement.

The 50-year-old actress admitted that some might find the use of the coordinators helpful during the filming of sex scenes, but for her, they made her “feel more anxious,” the U.K. The Times reported, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I think it’s only been a couple of times where they’ve been brought in, and I have very much trusted and felt at ease with the people I was working with,” Collette said.

“It just felt like those people who were brought in to make me feel more at ease were actually making me feel more anxious,” she added. “They weren’t helping, so I asked them to leave.”

The “Sixth Sense” star said she couldn’t say in the future that she would never want one on the set, and said it would depend on the people she was working with.

“Look, every job is different,” Collette said. “Every single job is different. Because it’s a bunch of new people it’s a new energy; everyone brings their whole life with them, and it’s all thrown in the pot.”

“You never know what you’re going to get and it’s a miracle that a film ever comes together, let alone thrives,” she added. “I’ve been very fortunate in that I’ve only worked with a few a**holes over the several decades that I’ve managed to keep this boat afloat.”

The introduction of intimacy coordinators was one of the results of the MeToo movement that rocked the entertainment industry and more in 2017. The decision was to have them on set during the shooting of intimate sex scenes.

“West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler previously said, “Intimacy coordinators establish an environment of safety for actors. I was extremely grateful for the one we had on WSS — they showed grace to a newcomer like myself + educated those around me who’ve had years of experience.”
