Tim Harris to chair interim SA Tourism board
Tim Harris, a former DA MP and former CEO of Wesgro, will chair the interim board of SA Tourism.
Patricia de Lille, the minister of tourism, said she would gazette the appointment today. Harris had been nominated by a fellow member of the organisation’s interim board, Vincent Zwelibanzi Mntambo. Both Mntambo and Harris were appointed to the interim board a fortnight ago.
Mntambo is a former civil servant for the Gauteng provincial government.
The appointments came after De Lille had dissolved SA Tourism’s board after eight of the 11 members had resigned.
SA Tourism has been mired in controversy recently, in the wake of reports that it had entered into a sponsorship deal worth nearly R1 billion with an English football club, Tottenham Hotspur. After De Lille was appointed tourism minister in March this year, she scrapped the deal which she called ‘unlawful and invalid’.
