Mann kills pigeons – Berlin public prosecutor’s office does not recognize any punishable act, as he did not torture them but later consumed them. Residents of the Berlin districts of Kreuzberg and Treptow-Köpenick are dealing with brutal cases of animal cruelty. The Berliner Zeitung reports that „a man is said to have mistreated pigeons and then eaten them at several places in Berlin.“ Berlin’s animal welfare officer Kathrin Herrmann reports on witness statements. These witnesses reported how a man „plucked the feathers of pigeons alive and conscious or cut their necks with a fruit knife in order to consume them afterwards.“ The broadcaster rbb refers to two related criminal proceedings. However, according to rbb, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office does not see any legally relevant events. The rbb states: „In one case, an investigation was carried out against a man known by name for consuming pigeon eggs. This procedure was terminated at the end of September because there were no indications of a punishable act under the Animal Welfare Act, according to the spokesperson. However, the procedure was resumed on October 26 because the complainant had complained. It is being examined whether there may be an administrative offense. In another case, according to the public prosecutor’s office, it was about an unknown man who is said to have killed a pigeon for the purpose of consumption.“ However, this procedure was terminated with the justification: „A punishable act requires either torture or killing without reasonable cause. In this case, however, the animal was killed for subsequent consumption.“ The animal welfare officer speaks of „cruel attacks on pigeons and pigeon chicks.“ Therefore, she cannot understand „why the authorities have terminated a criminal proceeding,“ Herrmann told rbb. The sight of animal cruelty and the abandoned pigeon carcasses are increasingly disturbing Berliners. Passers-by also feel increasingly threatened by the man armed with a knife.

Bavarian Green Party loser Schulze secures copyright for „government faction in waiting“. The Augsburger Allgemeine summed up after the latest Bavarian state election in August: „The Greens wanted to become the second strongest force in Bavaria. Although it looked like it for a long time, in the end only fourth place remained.“ About eight weeks later, Katharina Schulze, the Green Party’s lead candidate and election loser, shines with unabated ambitions „for higher things“, confidently and loudly as usual in the Bavarian state parliament: „We Greens are the driving force and control body. And because we take our work seriously, we are the government faction in waiting.“ The colleagues from other factions present in the plenary hall reacted with spontaneous applause and hearty laughter. Schulze, looking confused and almost bewildered, topped her unrealistic perception, after a 3.2 percent loss of votes for her party, with the following remark: „You don’t need to laugh, I mean it seriously.“

Habeck laments the critical economic situation in Germany, which „we“ caused. Spontaneous honesty or a Freudian slip? That’s what social media users are asking themselves when they look at the latest explanations by Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck. During a press conference, he gave the attending journalists the following perception, which he immediately corrected: „And Putin, in turn, should not decide on the structure of the German industry. That cannot be right (…) The answers we give are largely answers to protect the German industry or the German economy (…) from a situation that was caused by us – uh – caused from the outside.“ Other comments included: „What situation from the outside could that have been?“ „The dog ate my homework again.“ „‚Out of the mouths of babes’… that’s what they say, right?“ The comment „Snicklink couldn’t have done it better“ refers to the now feared „video satirist“ Willy ‚Snicklink‘ Kramer in political Berlin.

Vienna’s new „clay figure“ fountain for 2.1 million. In the 10th district of Vienna, Favoriten, at the corner of Sonnwendgasse/Gudrunstraße, an aesthetically questionable and extremely expensive fountain was inaugurated. Instead of opting for classical forms and themes, the fountain consists of a series of misshapen bodies reminiscent of clay figures made by children. The cost: 2.1 million euros. The design comes from the Austrian internationally renowned artist group „Gelitin,“ which apparently was allowed to design the fountain due to a won competition. In addition to the artists, Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and even Austria’s Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen (Greens) appeared at the opening of the fountain. On the occasion of the opening, Vienna’s SPÖ councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky said: „We are fortunate to have won the Gelitin artist group, who, when it comes to art, play in the Champions League.“
