In Schwerin, Germany, a planned deportation operation for two Afghan refugees escalated. A woman prevented the arrest and barricaded herself with her family in the apartment of a church community. The officers were forced to storm the building.

Major operation in Schwerin, Germany (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern): Two Afghan refugees, aged 18 and 22, were supposed to be taken into deportation custody and deported to Spain. However, the situation escalated: The mother of the two prevented this by barricading herself with her six-member family in the apartment of an evangelical church community. She then threatened the officers. The police spokesperson Juliane Zgonine confirmed that the threat was taken seriously. Heavily armed special forces accompanied a negotiation team that tried to speak to the barricaded individuals. In addition, several police officers positioned themselves with a battering ram and a chainsaw in front of the building, but these were not used. After about four hours of trying to stay in conversation with the family and persuade them to open the door, the intervention forces finally „physically forced“ their way into the apartment, said the police spokesperson. In the church, the police officers found that one of the two men was injured. How this happened is not known. The woman was also in a state of mental distress. Both were taken to a hospital. „During the search of all persons, knives were found hidden on the mother, the son (22), and the daughter,“ the police said after the operation. Criminal proceedings for threats and coercion have been initiated against the mother. No other individuals or intervention forces were injured during the operation. There was never any danger to outsiders
