Chinas Außenminister warnt Taiwan vor Unabhängigkeitsbestrebungen und droht mit „harter Bestrafung“ nach der Wahl

China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, has issued a warning that any moves towards independence by Taiwan will be met with severe consequences. This comes after the self-governed island elected pro-sovereignty candidate Lai Ching-te as president, despite Beijing’s objections. The Chinese Communist Party views Lai as a dangerous separatist and has claimed Taiwan as its territory, refusing to rule out the use of force to bring it under its control. In response to Lai’s victory, Wang stated that it would not alter the „inevitable trend of China’s reunification“. He emphasized that any attempts to seek independence would result in harsh punishment both historically and legally.

Wang made these remarks during a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, in Cairo. He stressed that Taiwan is not a separate country and has never been one in the past or will be in the future. Wang warned that efforts towards independence would not only harm the well-being of Taiwanese citizens but also pose a threat to the fundamental interests of China and jeopardize peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region.

It is clear that China remains firm in its stance on Taiwan’s status and is prepared to take action against any moves towards independence. The election of Lai Ching-te as president has only further strained the already tense relationship between Beijing and Taipei. The international community will be closely watching how this situation unfolds and the potential impact it may have on regional stability

China’s top diplomat warned Sunday that any steps towards Taiwan’s independence would be “harshly punished”, after the self-ruled island defied Beijing’s warnings and chose pro-sovereignty candidate Lai Ching-te as president. Voters on the island spurned Beijing’s repeated calls not to vote for Lai, delivering a comfortable victory for a man China’s ruling Communist Party sees as a dangerous separatist. Beijing, which claims Taiwan as its territory and has never renounced force to bring it under its control, responded to Lai’s victory by saying it would not change the “inevitable trend of China’s reunification”. “If anyone on the island of Taiwan thinks of going for independence, they will be trying to split apart China’s territory, and will certainly be harshly punished
