Lainer was diagnosed with lymph node cancer during the summer preparations: „I feel good and I’m looking forward to the future. The past is what it is. However, he never doubted himself during his time of suffering, assured Lainer: „I’m a person who accepts things as they are. I never looked back, I was always positive. My doctor guided me very well. Everything went really smoothly. Of course, luck also plays a part. And many people who support you. Being back on the field, in front of the fans, was definitely the most emotional game of my career.“ Whether the right-back, who moved from Salzburg to Gladbach in 2019, will still play for Borussia in the coming season is uncertain. „We are in open and clear communication with the player and his management,“ said sporting director Nils Schmadtke. „And then we’ll see what comes out of it in the end
