The ILWU’s failure to take a stand against the Israeli slaughter in Gaza is a betrayal of its own principles and history. It is a capitulation to the forces of imperialism and oppression. The ILWU leadership, under Adams, has chosen to align itself with the oppressors rather than the oppressed.
But the rank-and-file members of the ILWU have a long history of militancy and solidarity. They have shown time and time again that they are willing to take action in defense of justice and equality. It is up to them to push back against the leadership’s betrayal and demand that the ILWU stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
The ILWU has a proud history of standing up to government repression and corporate greed. It is time for the union to once again show its true colors and stand on the side of justice and liberation. The rank-and-file members of the ILWU have the power to make this happen. They must organize, mobilize, and demand that their union take a stand against the Israeli slaughter in Gaza. Only through collective action and solidarity can we hope to bring an end to the atrocities being committed in Palestine
