‘Mockery of Justice’: Over 80 District Attorneys Vow Not To Enforce Abortion Bans
Over 80 district attorneys and attorneys general from more than 10 states where abortion has been banned following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade issued a statement Friday vowing not to prosecute people for obtaining abortions.
The statement by 84 elected prosecutors, organized by left-wing advocacy group Fair and Just Prosecution, claimed enforcing abortion bans would be an abuse of their criminal justice resources, calling enforcement a “mockery of justice.”
“Criminalizing and prosecuting individuals who seek or provide abortion care makes a mockery of justice,” says a joint statement signed by 84 district attorneys and attorneys general. “Prosecutors should not be part of that.”
“Not all of us agree on a personal or moral level on the issue of abortion. But we stand together in our firm belief that prosecutors have a responsibility to refrain from using limited criminal legal system resources to criminalize personal medical decisions,” their statement said, which included signatures from George Soros-backed DAs like L.A. county’s George Gascón, Cook County’s Kimberly Foxx, and Philadelphia’s Larry Krasner.
“Prosecutors, police, and our medical partners cannot do our jobs when many victims and witnesses of crime or other emergencies are unwilling to work with us for fear that their private medical decisions will be criminalized.”
“As such, we decline to use our offices’ resources to criminalize reproductive health decisions and commit to exercise our well settled discretion and refrain from prosecuting those who seek, provide, or support abortions,” the prosecutors added.
This comes as the State Department and Department of Defense under Joe Biden indicated their resistance to honoring the Supreme Court’s ruling putting the burden of deciding abortion policy on individual states.
About 20 states have already outlawed abortions or are in the process of banning abortions so far as a result of “trigger laws” that went into effect following the Supreme Court’s decision.
Left-wing outlet Vox lamented Saturday that there’s “no guarantee that a district attorney can protect abortion providers from criminal liability forever.”
“Some are elected and others appointed, so they could be replaced by someone who wants to prosecute providers. Though prosecutors can stem the enforcement of trigger laws somewhat, there’s only so much they can do now that Roe has been overturned,” Vox reported.
The joint statement arguing that abortions would tie up legal resources tracks with these leftist district attorneys’ overall policy of refusing to prosecute violent crimes, which has led to a dramatic increase of violence in blue cities.
This ruling simply exposes the Democrats’ disdain for law and order, which they pretend to advocate for in politically convenient cases like January 6 and the COVID crisis.
“You will defy our core institution after sending people to prison for questioning the last election,” Fox News host Tucker Carlson said of Democrats Friday. “Is that what you’re saying? Don’t lecture us ever again about the sanctity of our institutions, about our norms, because you clearly don’t care about them at all. What you care about is power.”
