DeSantis Suspends ‘Soros-Backed’ Prosecutor For ‘Ignoring’ Florida Law

Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday suspended a “Soros-funded” state prosecutor from office for “neglect of duty.”

Upon issuing the Executive Order of Suspension, DeSantis explained, “State Attorneys have a duty to prosecute crimes as defined in Florida law, not to pick and choose which laws to enforce based on his personal agenda.”

According to the governor, Florida state attorney Andrew Warren of the 13th Judicial Circuit specifically failed to enforce laws dealing with crime and regulating abortion.

Warren was suspended under Article IV, Section 7 of the Florida Constitution.

A statement issued by the DeSantis administration revealed Judge Susan Lopez will replace Warren as State Attorney.

“It is my duty to hold Florida’s elected officials to the highest standards for the people of Florida,” the statement noted. “I have the utmost trust that Judge Susan Lopez will lead the office through this transition and faithfully uphold the rule of law.”

Speaking on her promotion, Judge Lopez told Floridians, “I have the utmost respect for our state laws and I understand the important role that the State Attorney plays in ensuring the safety of our community and the enforcement of our laws. I want to thank the Governor for placing his trust in me, and I promise that I will faithfully execute the duties of this office.”

DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw wrote on Twitter, “Progressive prosecutors backed by Soros have refused to enforce laws across the country. They treat criminals with deference & victims with contempt. This dereliction of duty is why crime is surging. But @GovRonDeSantis won’t stand for this. He just suspended the one in Florida.”

A 2017 New York Times article confirmed billionaire George Soros funded Warren’s 2016 campaign.

The Florida governor gave a press conference on Thursday where he discussed the decision, telling the press, “The Constitution of Florida has vested the veto power in the governor, not in individual state attorneys. So, when you flagrantly violate your oath of office, when you make yourself above the law, you have violated your duty, you have neglected your duty.”
