35.000.000.000 Euro – that’s the amount of the secret vaccine deal that von der Leyen has concluded. A Belgian citizen, Frédéric Baldan, filed a criminal complaint against von der Leyen because the contract for vaccine orders was concluded completely in secret and without any transparency. In a reader’s comment on July 16, the latest state of affairs was reported. The EU ordered 1.36 billion vaccine doses (AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, and BioNTech/Pfizer) for all EU member states (beginning of 2021). According to ARD plusminus, this amounts to 3 doses per citizen for 450 million EU citizens. In spring 2021, there were supply shortages and the EU did not progress with vaccinations as quickly as the US or UK. Another 3rd contract with Pfizer for 1.8 billion doses at 35,000,000,000 euros – concluded by von der Leyen via SMS. Von der Leyen orders another 1.8 billion doses for 35,000,000,000 euros. The special thing about this is that von der Leyen orchestrated this contract through SMS and phone calls. She reportedly told the New York Times, which titled „How Europe sealed a Pfizer vaccine deal with texts and calls“. Repeat offender As many already know, she orchestrated this with Albert Bourla (CEO of Pfizer). The European Court of Auditors also confirms this and writes in a special report on the COVID-19 vaccines: This was the only contract in which the joint negotiation team was not involved in this negotiation phase, contrary to the Commission’s decision on the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines. Frédéric Baldan is annoyed that it is claimed that the SMS messages cannot be found or are not publicly accessible. Two possible scenarios: She still has the SMS messages and is deliberately withholding them – under Belgian law, this is a criminal offense because official documents must be disclosed. She has deleted them – that would also be a criminal offense. The behavior is not new, already in 2019 as German Minister of Defense, von der Leyen made SMS messages disappear or deleted them (we reported on it). She awarded contracts worth millions to consulting firms without conducting a tender. The investigative committee requested her mobile phone. Coincidentally, her ministry instructed her to delete all data on her phone. Alexander Fanta (journalist, EU correspondent for netzpolitik) also demands the disclosure of the SMS messages. This is his right, because the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union states (2000/C 364/01): Article 42 Right of access to documents Union citizens and natural or legal persons residing or having their registered office in a Member State have the right of access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents. So far, he has not received them and has sought contact with the Ombudsman (Emily O’Reilly) – he filed a complaint with her. She also had no success. The European Court of Auditors also had no success, the report states: The Court requested the Commission to provide it with information on the pre-negotiations for this contract (consulted scientific experts and advice received, schedule of discussions, records of discussions, and details of the agreed conditions). However, no information was provided. Price per vaccine dose increased from 15.50 euros to 19.50 euros The report also states that not even the European Parliament has been shown the documents.
