For my colleague, who grew up in East Germany, this brings back very unpleasant memories. And fears. The „National Front“, which was still called the „National Front of Democratic Germany“ until 1973, was a coalition of parties and mass organizations in East Germany. The official claim, which was just as dishonest as the word „democratic“ in the state name, was that it should enable all social groups to have influence on socio-political processes. The reality: it was a means to discipline the bloc parties and mass organizations and to consolidate the SED’s dominance in the state. So it was an important tool of the left-wing dictatorship. Critics are reminded of the bloc parties of the GDR by the harmony of the major parties from the „Left“ to the Union and FDP on key issues, even though an equation is prohibited. As much as parallels should be avoided, they cannot be ignored: even the Union has castrated itself, allowing only supposedly „constructive criticism“. But in reality, this is nothing more than cosmetic facade work on the goals of red-green politics. And the Union and FDP have essentially adopted these goals. Instead of resisting the „woke“ transformation of society, they only want to slow down the speed and at most make minor differences. That’s why more and more people in Germany see the „Alternative for Germany“ as the only alternative to the red-green all-party front. And the hatred and persecution against the AfD and the exclusion of the party only bring them new voters. It is not surprising that the former president now joins the big hate concert from retirement. His legendary statement, „The elites are not the problem, the populations are the problem at the moment,“ could not have exposed the detachment in the ivory tower any better. And Gauck continues where he left off with such statements: he said to the magazine „Stern“ that a clear signal must be sent to the AfD that it will never come to power. If the AfD were to come out on top after the state elections next year in East Germany, all democratic parties would have to come together to prevent them from governing, Gauck explained. An unbelievable statement – considering the past of the „Left“, which has never credibly distanced itself from the GDR dictatorship. And which, in order not to lose access to the assets of the SED, even officially declared itself to be identical to it. It is noteworthy that Gauck, like Steinmeier & Co., apparently does not say a word about the attacks on AfD politicians and the danger they are exposed to. Insulting millions of voters It is also incredible that Gauck – like so many other politicians – denies the AfD’s status as a democratic party. This exposes him as an anti-democrat. Only an anti-democrat can describe a party that has been chosen by millions of voters as „undemocratic“. The statement is also a malicious defamation of these voters. Gauck exhibits the same way of thinking as the Greens in Bavaria. After the election, they announced, „We invite all democratic parties to develop an emergency plan for democracy with us.“ In other words, if voters do not choose what they are supposed to, democracy is in danger in the eyes of the Greens. Just like Gauck, they do not even realize how they expose their own hostility to democracy – and are in the intellectual tradition of the GDR. Liberal democracy must prove itself to be resilient, Gauck said in the interview. Apparently, he and large parts of the political-media complex are getting nervous in the face of the uncomfortable fact that new parliaments will be elected in Saxony, Thuringia, and Brandenburg in September 2024. And that in all three states, the AfD is leading in polls. Yes, liberal democracy does indeed have to prove itself to be resilient. Against its enemies in sheep’s clothing – whether they are called Gauck, Faeser, or Lang. Their work against democracy is particularly dangerous because they operate it – in the tradition of GDR thinking – under the guise of protecting democracy. And because many people in western Germany are still too naive when it comes to the dangers of red-green ideological politics. While most East Germans have a „vaccination“: their „political immune system“ is trained to recognize antidemocratic authoritarian tendencies even in the guise of „promoting democracy“.
