According to official figures, only just over a third of FDP members voted. According to the German Press Agency (dpa), 52.24 percent of them voted in favor of continuing the government’s work, while 47.76 percent advocated leaving the coalition, as reported by the dpa on Monday from party circles. This in itself is dubious – that the result is leaked to the government’s mouthpiece, the „dpa“, before the official vote. According to the information, 26,058 of the approximately 72,100 party members participated in the vote. If this is true and if I calculate correctly, 584 votes were missing for a negative result. However, the result could also be interpreted differently: out of 72,100 members, only 13,612 voted for the traffic light coalition. That’s just 18.8 percent – not even one in five. The vote was conducted exclusively online. This immediately raises the question: What possibilities for manipulation are there? One of my readers commented on Telegram: „I can’t really believe that the result is so CLOSE! In this corrupt country, election decisions have already been reversed because the elite didn’t like it, or the election debacle in Berlin! A rogue who thinks evil!“ Even in the mainstream, many readers make fun of the result and doubt it in the comments. I myself refrain from such evaluations. Even though an old Stalin quote came to mind involuntarily: „What matters is not how people vote, but who counts.“ Online votes can be difficult to substantiate. The fact is: the fact that only about a third of the members voted is a disgrace for the party. Are two-thirds indifferent to what it does? Why are they members then? Or did something really go wrong with the online counting? Although the vote would not have been legally binding for party leader Lindner, who leads the party in a rather autocratic manner. However, a negative outcome would have had a massive political signaling effect. A „business as usual“ would have been difficult for the left-green ticking and now only yellow-painted former liberals Lindner. But now Lindner and his comrades (I intentionally use this word) can enjoy their privileges in the government for another two years in peace – including ego boosters and company cars. According to the motto: And after me the deluge. Because if Lindner actually abuses the party as a stepping stone for red-green restructuring policy for another two years, he will destroy it and bring it below the five percent threshold.
