For example, searches were conducted for keywords such as „Trump“ and „MAGA“ in the subject of transfers, and FinCEN „warned financial institutions about „extremism“ indicators, including „transportation costs, such as bus tickets, rental cars, or plane tickets, for travel to areas without an obvious purpose,“ or „the purchase of books (including religious texts) and subscriptions to other media with extremist content.“ In addition, the transactions were to be searched for certain MCC codes. MCC codes are assigned by credit card companies to identify merchants; part of the MCC code also identifies the industry in which the company operates. These codes are also used for tax purposes. This particularly concerned codes such as „small arms“ or „sports and leisure goods,“ but also „pawnshops.“ In addition, there was a list of code words that included various merchants, as well as weapons manufacturers such as Browning, Glock, or Sig Sauer. It should be noted that according to the US Constitution, the possession of firearms is a fundamental right; the rights of the states differ greatly in their implementation, but a fundamental abolition is not enforceable in the United States.
